Ross Creek House
Ross Creek House
Maori Hill, Dunedin
Ross Creek House sits on the edge of a cliff, overhanging a native reserve that borders Dunedin City. A stone base and large stone chimneys, ground the building on the rocky outcrops, whilst continuous glass walls, framed by tall external timber columns, enclose and suspend the light interior volumes within the bush setting.
The design is contemporary with a robust character, that emanates from the use of warm and natural, colours and materials.
“This generously proportioned house is set among trees with bush-clad views toward the Ross Creek valley. Its simple horizontal lines and vertical divisions of space give it a serene connection to the outside world in a delightful and uncomplicated way. The clever use of natural light and materials – wood, textured concrete, steel and glass – lends an ethereal quality."
