"This renovation is a seamless integration of old with new. From the recycling and reuse of brick to matched leadlighting in the new windows, the average person would walk into this home and not know what had been altered – that’s how well it has been executed."

"After a sympathetic revamp a Dunedin house is set for another 90 years. The renovation by Gray Bros Builders transformed a formerly dark, cold 1920s gentleman’s residence in an established tree-lined street into a warm and modern family home.
The house had been only slightly altered during its lifetime and its owners briefed Mason & Wales Architects to restore its fabric and transform the small separate living rooms into open family spaces.
The grand entry that replaced the original Kitchen leads into the new one – all laquered cabinetry, tiled splashbacks, granite bench tops, stainless steel appliances and gleaming Victorian Ash floorboards that flow into a Dining area made even lighter and brighter by the addition of a bay window. A restful Master Suite was incorporated above the Kitchen/Dining area; the concrete tile roof and original shingles were replaced and the house was insulated.
Original features were salvaged and reused whenever possible and new ones crafted to match the existing ones. Landscaping in the garden that opens from the new Living and Dining Room is also in keeping with the period of the house."
